1. allow (doing) sth 允許(做)某事。
如：The facts allow no other explanation.
事實不允許有其他的解釋。
We don’t allow eating in the classrooms.
我們不允許在教室吃飯。
注：有時用于被動語態(tài)。
如：Dogs are not allowed.
狗不得入內(nèi)。
Smoking is not allowed here. 此處不準吸煙。
2. allow sb to do sth 允許某人做某事。
如：My parents don’t allow me to go out at night.
我父母不允許我晚上出去。
Her boss doesn’t allow her to use the telephone.
她的老板不允許她使用電話。
注：有時用于被動語態(tài)。
如：Passengers are not allowed to smoke.
乘客不準吸煙。
3. allow sb sth 給予某人某物(尤指錢或時間);讓某人有(擁用或帶有)某物。

4. allow for 考慮到，把……考慮進來，體諒。
如：We should allow for every possible delay.
我們應(yīng)該考慮到任何可能的延誤。
We must allow for his youth.
我們必須體諒他的年輕。
