    Sam ： I'd like to move in right away ， if possible.

    Li： No problem. The deposit is two months' rent， and the rent is
5000 yuan.

    Sam ： Is there a maintenance fee for this building ？

    Li： Yes. Just pay the security guard downstairs. I think it's about
200 yuan.

    Sam ： OK. And when is the rent due ？

    Li： On the tenth of each month. You can just transfer the money to
my account.

    Sam ： Sounds easy enough.

    Li： OK ， now you take a look at the contract. It states clearly
what belongs to us.

    Sam ： Like the sofa and the television ？

    Li： Exactly. So you'll be responsible for any loss or damage to those
items.

    Sam ： But what if something breaks down？

    Li： We'll take care of repairs.

    Sam ： Great.

    講解：

    1.看來Sam 對(duì)這個(gè)公寓真的很滿意，他說I'd like to move in right away，
if possible.如果可能的話，我想馬上就搬進(jìn)來。if possible 是個(gè)固定短語，
表示“如果可能的話”，大家可以直接拿過來用。

    2. Ms. Li 說沒有問題，The deposit is two months' rent ， and the rent
is 5000 yuan. 押金是兩個(gè)月的房租，房租每月5000元�？春梅孔恿耍�就交錢吧。

    押金，deposit ，還是儲(chǔ)蓄的意思。房租，rent，這個(gè)詞還是動(dòng)詞，表示
“租借，租用或出租”。例如：Is that your own computer ， or do you rent
it？這電腦是你自己的，還是租來的？We rent a room to Mrs. Smith我們租了
一間房給史密斯太太。The apartment rents at $2000 a month. 這個(gè)單元套房
以每月2000美元出租。在這個(gè)句子當(dāng)中有一個(gè)短語，rent at ，是“以……價(jià)錢
出租”

    的意思。The cottage rents for $200 a month. 這個(gè)小屋以每月二百美金
出租，那么我們可以看出rent for也可以表示“以…價(jià)錢出租”的意思。

    3. Sam問Is there a maintenance fee for this building？這棟大樓有管
理費(fèi)嗎？maintenance ，維護(hù)，保持， maintenance fee就是管理費(fèi)，也就是我
們?nèi)粘Ｕf的“物業(yè)費(fèi)”。Ms. Li說付給樓下的保安就行了，每個(gè)月大概是200 元
錢，看來這棟大樓的物業(yè)費(fèi)業(yè)不便宜啊。

    4 .And when is the rent due ？那什么時(shí)候交房租呢？due 這個(gè)詞在這里
表示“到期的”，例如：When is the paper due ？什么時(shí)候交論文？我想這是
學(xué)生們常問的一句話。還有When is my salary due ？什么時(shí)候付我工資？ due
還有“應(yīng)到的，預(yù)期的”意思，例如：When is the steamer due ？船預(yù)定何時(shí)
到呢？跟due 有關(guān)的詞組還有due to，表示原因，例如：Her illness was due
to bad food.她的病是吃壞了的食物造成的。

    5.房租是每個(gè)月的十號(hào)交，直接把錢打到Ms. Li的賬戶中就行了。transfer
這個(gè)詞可以表示“轉(zhuǎn)賬，轉(zhuǎn)車，轉(zhuǎn)學(xué)”等等。例如：You have to transfer to
another bus if you want to go to the park.如果你想去公園的話，得轉(zhuǎn)乘另
一輛公共汽車。

    7. Sam覺得這樣做挺簡(jiǎn)單的�，F(xiàn)在他們一起來看租房協(xié)議。協(xié)議說明了哪些
東西是屬于房東的，It states clearly what belongs to us. belong to 這個(gè)
短語表示“屬于；是……的一員”。例如：That dictionary belongs to the library.
那本詞典是圖書館的。Do you belong to the trade union？你是貿(mào)易協(xié)會(huì)會(huì)員
嗎？

    8.協(xié)議上說沙發(fā)和電視都是房東所有。所以如果這些物品如果有遺失或損壞
的話，Sam 就要負(fù)責(zé)了。be responsible for something，對(duì)某事某物負(fù)責(zé)。但
是如果有東西不是Sam 弄壞的呢？該怎么辦？

    9. Ms. Li 說We'll take care of repairs. 我們會(huì)負(fù)責(zé)修理的。take care
of除了有“照顧”的意思之外呢，還表示“負(fù)責(zé)某事”。例如：I'll take care
of the cleaning this week.這周我來負(fù)責(zé)打掃。
