都含有“使...驚異” 的意思,而且它們都是一般以事物或他人作主語, 以本人作賓語; 以本人作主語時用被動形式。
amaze強調“使驚異, 困惑”間或還有“驚嘆, 佩服”的意思, 是意義很強的詞, 如:
We were amazed at the ingenuity with which they solved their difficulties.
他們在解決困難中所表現(xiàn)的智慧使我們驚嘆[佩服]。
astonish表示“使人大吃一驚”、“幾乎無法使人相信”, 但沒有“驚嘆”的意思, 如:
I was astonished at his rudeness.
