美國威力塔斯學(xué)校11月第4周周刊

  周日,美國威力塔斯學(xué)校的同學(xué)們參加了頤和園園林文化體驗活動。京劇老師給孩子們帶來精彩的國粹藝術(shù)文化講解、現(xiàn)場演繹了花旦唱腔及舞臺走步,博得同學(xué)們陣陣掌聲!隨后全體同學(xué)繪制了京劇臉譜T恤,并且在專業(yè)雙語講解老師的帶領(lǐng)下參觀了頤和園的幾大景點,了解了背后的歷史文化故事。在這活動中,同學(xué)們對中國博大精深的戲曲文化、古代園林建筑特色及近現(xiàn)代歷史文化等方面有了深入了解,為他們今后做講解志愿者工作奠定了基礎(chǔ)。

  On Sunday, Veritas student volunteers went to The Summer Palace to experience ancient Qing dynasty culture and its architecture. In the morning, students experienced as well as participated in Beijing Opera that was led by Beijing’s own renown, Jin Nan Hui who taught the students how to sing, adjust their long sleeves (xifu) and to“theater” walk correctly. This related knowledge under the guidance of a great Beijing Opera actor was the highlight of the trip. A few minutes later all the students were invited into a kind of tea room and painted faces (lianpu) ontoT-shirts. Each student painted their own shirt and after photos were taken of allthe students together holding their artwork. Later in the afternoon, the groupof us went to the garden of Virtue and Harmony. They discovered Qing Dynasty technology of that time and how that time period leant influence with itsarchitecture that had profound implications on the Chinese culture. Theactivity set a solid foundation for the students for their later voluntary workas tour guides at the Summer Palace.

  在本周的學(xué)生集會上,Elgut 校長頒發(fā)了紀律獎和衛(wèi)生獎的榮譽獎牌。11年級的教室最為整潔有序,獲得衛(wèi)生獎“Yosemite 獎”。九年級獲得紀律獎,希望孩子們繼續(xù)保持!

  Backat school, during the student assembly on Tuesday, Mr. Caleb Elgut awarded the winning classroom “the Yosemite Award” for having the cleanest classroom inwhich the recipients were the Grade 11th students (as expected) because theyhad the most organized and cleanest classroom environment. Let’s continue to keep up the good work! The winner of Honor of discipline was the 9th grade students who were singled out by many foreign and Chinese teachers. Well done,guys!

  另外,Palomino老師發(fā)表了以尊重為主題的精彩演講。他教育學(xué)生不僅要自我尊重,更要尊重他人和環(huán)境。從學(xué)生認真聆聽和思考的神情中可以看出他們在學(xué)習(xí)如何尊重自我以及他人。

  Also, Mr. Palomino shared his thoughts with the students on the subject of being respectful. He gave an effective speech on incorporating both self-respect and being mindful of the environment. The lookson the students’ faces indicated they were quite captured by Mr. Palomino lecture.

  有志者事竟成!這周全校學(xué)生致力于教室衛(wèi)生整潔。威力塔斯學(xué)生會主席十年級王昭元同學(xué)帶頭組織同學(xué)打掃教室,購買衣架,主動制定班級衛(wèi)生條例,起到了模范帶頭作用。在王昭元同學(xué)的帶領(lǐng)下,10年級的教室也被同學(xué)們整理的干干凈凈啦!

  Where there is a will there is away,which we can easily attribute to Ricky in Grade 10 who also is the classpresident of the Student Council. This past week he led a class discussion aboutthe virtues of creating a sound and clean environment in the classroom that isconducive to learning. Not only to keep the classroom clean but highlyorganized and decorated. Atta boy, Ricky!

  晚自習(xí)時間,張老師盡心負責幫助十一年級王宇飛同學(xué)學(xué)習(xí)托福。九年級祁老師悉心聽取學(xué)生問題,耐心指導(dǎo)。七年級郭老師幫助何京堃同學(xué)整理科學(xué)課知識點。相信在我們中外教老師團隊的共同的努力下,孩子們在學(xué)習(xí)和生活習(xí)慣上一定有質(zhì)的改變和提高。

  Mr. Zhang instructs Will during tutorial sessions on how to remember difficult words. Most teachers here try their best to make sure we answer all questions and address all concerns by the end of the day. For example, Miss Salia tutors Jack on how to summarize the main points in General Science. We believe our kids will improve with kind and responsible teachers around them.

  周四組織志愿者活動分享會,由倪壯壯同學(xué)帶領(lǐng)的MCF打工子弟學(xué)校志愿者服務(wù)小隊和楊天杰同學(xué)帶領(lǐng)的天云聾啞兒童康復(fù)中心的服務(wù)小隊給大家作匯報。兩個小隊都做了很多細致工作,從中也學(xué)到了很多,希望在他們的影響下能有,能有更多的同學(xué)加入他們。助人乃快樂之本。他們在服務(wù)中逐漸清楚的意識到幫助別人的意義。兩個小隊為處在起步階段的志愿者服務(wù)活動中起到了良好的組織帶頭作用。他們會在志愿者活動這項辛苦卻有回報的歷練中健康茁長的成長。

  Tonight our students organized a volunteer activities meeting led by two volunteerteams ;one by Jim Ni and the other team(TianYu rehab center for deaf and mute children)led by Ricky Yang. Both teams have done a lot of voluntary work for the center helping others. These two students came to share their experiences with their classmates,encouraging more students to join their teamsand to offer assistance to the people in society who need help. Volunteerism begets happiness because it is awin-win situation for both the recipient and the giver. Theschool club and the students who volunteers to help the needy is a newconception at Veritas which has never been developed before,but our studentsare both lucky and glad to be the pioneers and thoughtful ambassadors of good will.

  Model Union Nations - 1st Session

  Mr.Palomino said, it was my joy and privilege to see the students of Veritas PrepAcademy do their first Model U.N. Session. The topic of the night was relevantto current foreign affairs: Should the nations of the European Union &United States accept more Syrian refugees fleeing their country's civil war?Led by Celia, students began by first having introductions among the various nations. Mr. Ricky Wang and Mr. Lee Li represented the hermit kingdom of the Republicof North Korea, Mr. Michael Zhang represented the Russian Federation, and morethan 10 other students represented diverse nations like Canada and Iran.

  After introductions were made, the proposal for the motion to allow more refugees was debated between the students. Ms. Aphrodite Yang (representing the UnitedStates of America) argued that refugees should be allowed as America has ahistory of allowing the poor and downtrodden come to her shores. Others likeMr. Tony Tony (representing Canada) argued that refugees should not be accepted because they would not be able to fit into Canadian and other Western Liberal societies. Yet by the end of the debate, the side favoring more refugees was able to pass the motion in favor of their side.

  作為老師,他說我是懷著既擔心又興奮的心情參加的這次活動。他擔心的是,這些問題不是假設(shè)的,而是目前正在辯論,并代表了許多人心聲的論題。作為一個教育者,我也在考慮我能否幫助并鼓勵我們的學(xué)生認真的去反思這些嚴肅的問題。然而讓我高興的是,我看到同學(xué)們勇敢的迎接挑戰(zhàn),不僅在模擬聯(lián)合國的辯論中,更多的體現(xiàn)在各種類型的威力塔斯的學(xué)術(shù)活動中。雖然這個世界可能對于每個人都是艱難的,但我相信我們正在培養(yǎng)一群謙遜且有靈性的未來。

  Asa teacher it both worries and encourages me to see students participate in the Model U.N. It worries me because I know that these issues are not hypotheticalbut are currently being debated and represented many people's fates. Can I, asan educator, help and encourage our students to be serious and self-reflectingabout these vast issues? And furthermore do I myself represent those values that we wish to impart to our students? However, much to my joy, I am encourageto see the students meet the challenge, not only in the Model U.N, but in theirvarious classes and activities at Veritas Prep Academy. While the world may betough and scary, I believe we are cultivating a good group of future leaders who will be both humble and inspiring in their future plans.

  本周我們非常榮幸的邀請到武術(shù)大師陳鳳萍女士來威力塔斯學(xué)校,為我們展示她的武學(xué)知識,并向我們介紹了太極拳。對于我們的學(xué)生以及外籍教師和助教老師來說這是一次非常難得的練習(xí)太極的機會。像大多數(shù)優(yōu)秀的老師一樣,陳大師表現(xiàn)出極大的耐心和理解,她慢慢地細心得教每一個人。經(jīng)過一番努力,勤奮、專注和平衡這些太極理念,最終通過我們的肢體表現(xiàn)了出來。陳大師給我們每個人都留下了深刻的印象,我們非常期待她下次的到來,教授我們更多的太極動作。

  This week the Beijing Veritas Campus was honored and pleased to welcome master martial artist Chen FengPing as she demonstrated her knowledge, understanding,and mastery of Taiji. Our students, foreign teachers, and teaching assistants received a rare opportunity to train under Master Chen and received insightinto the philosophy that underlies the deceptively complicated movements of Taiji.The movements involved with Taiji were unfamiliar and awkward to most of theparticipants, so it took everyone a number of tries before they were able tocatch on. Yet, despite this, like most great teachers, Master Chen showed great patience and understanding as everyone learned slowly but surely. The conceptsof diligence, focus, and balance all lend themselves to this type of physical expression and Master Chen did well to teach us this by the end of the lesson.In the everyone involved was left with an appreciation for Master Chen and herabilities and with the hope that she will return to us again soon.
