As the secondary principal of Springboard Bilingual International School, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back from their summer vacation for the 2019 – 2020 school year. The faculty and staff at SIBS have been hard at work preparing for the arrival of our students this week and we are all excited to have them back in the classrooms and hallways filled with energy and enthusiasm for learning. It is our mission at SIBS to support students as they develop skills and strategies that help them achieve success and we are all ready and prepared to aid your child as they continue their academic journey.
Please allow me to introduce myself. I come from Denver, Colorado and have 23 years of experience in secondary education. I spent the first 15 years as a classroom teacher and have spent the last eight years in administration. I am very lucky to have been afforded the opportunity to live and work in three different countries over the past 13 years. I have been in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and most recently I was serving the student population in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. My initial undergraduate degree 25 years ago was an education and since then I have earned two graduate degrees in education pedagogy and one in education leadership I am currently working on my doctorate in educational leadership. I have a passion for teaching and learning and it is my hope that we can inculcate this excitement for learning in our students as we work with them.
I know that SIBS has a long history of bilingual education and that is very exciting to me since I believe that it is very important for students to develop a high level of fluency in their native tongue as well as in the English language. This school year we will strive to enhance our students’ English language learning opportunities both inside the classroom and out. One way we plan to improve students’ reading skills is through our after-lunch reading program called Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.). We will initiate this activity this year in an effort to foster a love of reading among our student population. Another goal for the SIBS secondary school this year will be the curriculum work and preparation necessary for the implementation of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program which we will have available for our students at the beginning of the 2021 school year.
On a more practical level, this year in the SIBS secondary school we hope to help students clearly understand the importance of working together as a community to establish the best learning environment possible. For this reason, we would like to clearly express to students and parents the importance of coming to school in the SIBS school uniform ready for learning every day. We are also going to limit cell phone use for students to only before and after school. Students with will then be required to lock their phones in a lock box in their homeroom during the school day. We believe that smartly dressed students who are not distracted by their electronic devices are better prepared for learning.
The SIBS teaching staff has worked hard this week to finalize the school schedule and place students in the appropriate courses in preparation for their school year. Due to the amount of time and effort that went into preparing class rosters, it is expected that students will remain in the classes that they are enrolled in for the duration of the school year. The teaching staff and faculty at SIBS have been highly anticipating the arrival of the students and we are honored to partner with your families to support the learning needs of your students during this year.

請?jiān)试S我先進(jìn)行自我介紹。我來自科羅拉多州的丹佛,擁有23年的中學(xué)教育經(jīng)驗(yàn)。前15年我擔(dān)任了中學(xué)教師,之后8年一直在做管理工作。我很幸運(yùn)能夠在過去的13年中獲得在三個(gè)不同國家生活和工作的機(jī)會(huì)。我在科威特和沙特阿拉伯工作過,近期剛從蒙古的烏蘭巴托離開,并來到北京。25年前,我攻讀了教育本科學(xué)位,在取得兩個(gè)教育學(xué)碩士學(xué)位和一個(gè)教育管理碩士學(xué)位后,目前我正在攻讀教育管理博士學(xué)位。我對教學(xué)和學(xué)習(xí)都充滿著熱情。我希望在與學(xué)生一起相處時(shí),可以向?qū)W生灌輸這種學(xué)習(xí)的樂趣。
君誠有著悠久的雙語教育歷史,我認(rèn)為這對于學(xué)生用母語和英語同時(shí)提升高水平的語言流利度是非常有幫助的。本學(xué)年,我們將增加學(xué)生課堂內(nèi)外的英語學(xué)習(xí)機(jī)會(huì)。我們計(jì)劃提高學(xué)生閱讀能力的其中一種方法是,開展我們的午餐后閱讀計(jì)劃Drop Everything And Read(D.E.A.R.)。通過這項(xiàng)活動(dòng),我們希望培養(yǎng)學(xué)生對于閱讀的熱愛。君誠中學(xué)部的另一個(gè)目標(biāo)是實(shí)施IB課程所需的課程和準(zhǔn)備工作,我們將在2021學(xué)年初為學(xué)生提供這些課程。
從更實(shí)際的角度出發(fā),君誠中學(xué)部希望幫助學(xué)生清楚地了解多方共同努力建設(shè)學(xué)習(xí)環(huán)境的重要性。所以,我們希望向?qū)W生和家長清楚地表達(dá)穿校服上學(xué)的必要性。我們也將限制學(xué)生在校期間使用手機(jī)。學(xué)生需在上學(xué)期間將他們的手機(jī)鎖在他們教室的鑰匙箱中。我們認(rèn)為,不被電子設(shè)備分心的學(xué)生可以更好地投入到學(xué)習(xí)中。
君誠教師們已于本周完成學(xué)校課程安排,并為學(xué)生開學(xué)做好了一切準(zhǔn)備。由于課程準(zhǔn)備和分班過程需要花費(fèi)大量時(shí)間和精力,學(xué)生在本學(xué)年期間將留在他們所在的班級(jí)。君誠的教師們在期待著學(xué)生的到來。我們很榮幸能與您合作,共同協(xié)作來滿足學(xué)生在今年的學(xué)習(xí)需求。
希望本學(xué)年可以成為學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)生涯中難忘的一年!
